Tonik is a type of health insurance policy sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, which is especially designed for people ages 19-29 who lead active lifestyles. Anyone under age 65 can qualify, however. They have different rates based on the plan you choose and a number of other factors. Tonic health insurance will cover all types of injuries, which is crucial for those who enjoy skateboarding, snowboarding, and other extreme sports like activities. The only problem seems to be it’s not available for everyone just yet.
Currently Tonic is only offered in California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Colorado, Nevada and Georgia. They have a quick 15 minute application you can fill out to get a quote for a policy. Quotes depend on the area you live in, your health history, your age, and the plan you pick. There are three types of plans you can choose from.
The first is the Thrillseeker plan. This comes with a $5000 deductible and will likely run anywhere from $64 to $103 per month, again depending on where you live and other factors. Your co-pay for a doctor visit is $20 under the Thrillseeker plan as well, with 4 visits per year.
The second plan is called the Part-Time Daredevil. For somewhere around $125 per month you will get a $3000 deductible with a $30 co-pay, with 4 doctor visits per year.
The third plan is called the Calculated Risk Taker and is the best plan you can get, with only a $1500 deductible. You have a $40 co-pay under this plan, but this includes unlimited doctor visits. This plan will likely run around $125 to $150 per month.
No matter what plan you choose you also get the following benefits: 1. Generic prescription drug plan of $10 per prescription. 2. $100 Emergency Room care. 3. Zero out of pocket after deductible is paid. 4. Dental benefits that include a $25 deductible and free exams, cleanings, and x-rays. 5. Vision coverage of $50 towards eye exams, glasses, or contacts.
You can even obtain Tonik health insurance easily and quickly online. It’s not like filling out paperwork in some office. The online application is very easy to fill out, and in the event you do need more time, it has a save feature. It’s not like the old days of insurance where there had to be a 45 day waiting period for coverage to begin. An ID number will be issued to you via email within a few days at the most, but, if qualified, you can receive immediate approval. As soon as the email is received you can print out your ID card. Showing a clean bill of health with no recent injuries or illnesses will get you a quicker approval than someone who has just left the hospital.
What it boils down to is Tonik health insurance covering generic drugs, dental care, vision care, and health care together in one package. The rates will vary depending on where you live and which of the three plans you choose. The only differences in the three plans are the deductible, co-pay, number of doctor’s visits, and of course the premium. You can even choose your own doctor. They have many in-network choices for you to pick from, depending on the state you live in.
Tonik will not cover maternity or any brand name drugs. Remember this when talking to an insurance representative as you may want to find a policy that offers those kinds of coverages, if they are something you need. There are no yearly or quarterly contracts. You can keep or give up your coverage at any time as you see fit. Tonik coverage for your state could be available soon.
