Another Billionaire Dies

Paul Fentener van Vlissingen
Dutch Billionaire and nature conservationist, Paul Fentener van Vlissingen died Monday, another victim to cancer. Van Vlissingen stood down as Board Chairman from the century old family conglomerate, SMV, when symptoms began to appear and retired to his castle in Langbroek, Netherlands.

SMV is famed for the Makro chain and has huge claims in recycling, gas and oil. Brother, John A Fentener van Vlissingen (also a billionaire) resides in America and operates TRX, a ticketing conglomerate.

Van Vlissingen was also a staunch conservationist and was responsible for establishing the African Parks Conservation Fund that now operates 10 parks in 7 African countries. He was also contemplating donating his 81,000 hectare Scottish property to encourage the conservation of highland animals, the lynx and wolves.
