Can Markus Frind redefine e-commerce?

plenty_of_fish.jpg
Markus Frind, creator of Plenty Of Fish has thrown his hat into the ecommerce ring. Frind currently runs a very lucrative online dating service financed predominantly through Google's Adsense program.

In a post on his Wordpress blog, Frind claims that opportunities exist in monetizing whole online communities. While his methods may seem new and exciting commenters have already pointed out several existing programs.

I, like some of the other commenters, would say to Frind that it's no use just talking about it and slamming those who diss you. Entrepreneurs, real entrepreneurs, don't cry on shoulders but find ways to make their dreams happen. There is always more than one way to skin the proverbial cat and a entrepreneur the size of Frind should have no trouble trying to make these possibilities into a reality.

Less talk - more action Markus.

Not only 'Less talk - more action..' but it would be better if he used more honest talk.

1. I've heard him claim to be the first free dating site. Not true I started meetyourgreens.com in 2001. Not only is that well before he started his site, there were plenty free dating sites before mine so his claim to be the first is nonsense.

2. He claims (in a recorded interview somewhere) that he grew his site through word of mouth. Not true he has ads everywhere including Adwords ads.

3. He claims (bottom of the page http://www.free-dating-service.info/)
to run 'The only 100% Free online dating service'. Not true www.meetyourgreens.com is totally free and I am sure there are others.

4. The things he claims which are easy to prove wrong casts doubt about the things not see easy to disprove. Maybe he does earn $10,000 a day in Adsense (giving the benefit of the doubt that it is not just a ploy to get free publicity). But, that does not mean much if it costs $9,999 a day via Adwords (and whatever else) to generate it.

Instead of interviewers going all breathless, like naive school girls facing their favourite pop star, when he claims he earns $10,00 a day it would be better for them to ask some simple questions like, "How much do you spend on advertising?".

5. He claims some big secret to what he is doing (or to not know himself). It looks to me like good old Adwords arbitrage with a dating site in the middle.

I don't mind someone doing well for himself (if the self publicizing claims are true), but I do mind someone pushing their own agenda without recourse to the facts. If he is really doing so well why the desperate push to promote himself and his site?

Perhaps an alternative title for your article could be:

Can Markus Frind stop trying to redefine e-truth?

Of course, I could be all wrong about the guy and he was misquoted or whatever (though I am not sure how he could misquote himself). But I am finding it hard to find his version of things at all credible.

Regards,

William
